Overview of Position:


Provides professional nursing care to assigned patients in an efficient and caring manner. Coordinates care planning with other caregivers and with other areas, adheres to universal precautions, and is compliant with infection control policies. Works independently with minimal supervision. Ensures OR environment remains sterile during procedure. Meets the needs of the ST, Surgeon, anesthesia, and patient during the procedure. Services as a patient advocate.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

1. Provides direct patient care in accordance with physician orders in a warm and friendly manner.
2. Takes and records measurements or readings.
3. Assesses condition and provides treatment for care of patient.
4. Administers prescribed medications.
5. Accurately captures all applicable patient charges and submits on appropriate form in a timely manner.
6. Demonstrates proper decontamination of instrumentation, re-sterilization and accurate completion of sterilization logs.
7. Facilitates cost reduction per procedure by not opening supplies that are not needed.
8. Participates in maintaining physician preference cards.
9. Accepts on-call schedule and responds to on-call activation within 30 minutes.
10. Uses Epic system to enter orders, confirm orders, print reports. May use other computer programs required in area of responsibility.
11. May be asked to serve on department specialty focus team.
12. Documents implant records completely and accurately. Ensure correct charges are documented.
13. Follows Time-Out Policy.
14. Leads counts and ensures Count Policy is followed.
15. Patient Advocate.
16. Hand Off Reporting to recovering nurse.

QUALIFICATIONS

1. Current Ohio RN License and ADN.
2. Current CPR certification, or obtain within 30 days of employment.
3. Current ACLS certification, or obtain within one year of employment.
4. Ability to read, write and explain or describe moderately complex information to other hospital staff.
5. Ability to communicate well in an oral and written manner.
6. Ability to read, calculate and prepare medication, as well as the ability to observe and analyze any resulting reactions and to apply clinical knowledge.
7. Ability to collect data, interpret findings, set priorities and carry out established plan.
8. Demonstrates competence in age-specific patient care.
