Substation Design Engineer

Role Overview: As a technical lead substation design engineer, you will:

  • Design substations for distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission voltage classes.
  • Develop electrical design deliverables, including protection and control design and physical design.
  • Participate in project management, scheduling, and resource planning meetings.
  • Interface with clients, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Perform QA/QC on projects and mentor junior engineers.
  • Hybrid role in-office three days/week

Key Responsibilities:

  • Stay current with design guides, standards, systems, and engineering codes.
  • Ensure compliance with quality programs and support continuous improvement.
  • Prepare complex engineering deliverables and conduct equipment/materials research.
  • Manage budgets, schedules, and quality requirements for projects.
  • Coordinate with internal and external team members on projects.
  • Assist with identifying client interests and communicate them to project teams.
  • Support business development activities.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering from an accredited program.
  • Minimum of 5 years of high voltage (34.5 kV+) experience.
  • Ability to complete pre-employment onboarding requirements, including background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in substation design – Physical and/or Protection & Controls.
  • Experience in QA/QC of substation design projects.
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License or EIT in pursuit of obtaining a PE License.
